There has been a lot of negative attention surrounding the Oscars 2016, with many people complaining about the lack of diversity among the nominees for the Academy Awards this year. Not a single black actor has been given an Oscar nod again this year, with many people feeling that there were a few candidates who should have made the list for at least an Oscar nomination.
One of those candidates is actor Will Smith, who gave a very strong performance in his movie Concussion, yet has not managed to land an Oscar nomination for the film. Since he has been rejected by the Academy Awards, along with other black stars, Will and his family have decided to boycott the event and will not even bother to watch the ceremony at home.
Anyway, putting that aside, Will Smith is now going to movie on from his Concussion rejection from the Oscars and is now going to focus on his new movie projects, one of which is the exciting The American Can. The movie has been in development since way back in 2008 but it finally looks like we might get to see some movement on the project in the near future.
The American Can has been officially described as, "Based on actual events, John, a New Orleans native and combat Marine, risks his life in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina for the safety and rescue of 244 people trapped in his apartment building." The most recent adaptation of the script has been worked on by Adetoro Makinde and John Lee Hancock, with Edward Zwick lined up to direct the film. Let's hope The American Can goes into production sooner rather than later.
