It is hard to believe that the hit HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones has been running for five years now, as it still manages to feel so fresh and new with every season. Over the course of the past five seasons, we have seen a number of stars really making a name for themselves and impressing in Game of Thrones, with some very compelling performances indeed.
Actress Carice van Houten plays the role of Melisandre in Game of Thrones, a character who many fans see as being something of a villain, especially after the events of season five. During one particular episode, wannabe King Stannis Baratheon ordered his own daughter to be burned at the stake, on the instruction of Melisandre.
Following the airing of this episode, many fans made their disgust known and took to social media to attack actress Carice van Houten, since they cannot actually get to a fictional character. Now, Carice has opened up about the death threats she received, admitting that she was actually expecting them.
Houten explained, "I had so many people on Twitter telling me 'F**k off, b**ch.' I've never had so many death wishes in my life. It was so interesting to experience that. I mean, I knew it was coming - I thought, I'm not gonna get any more sympathy after this!"
It is good that Carice van Houten was fully prepared for the backlash that was to come but that does still not make it acceptable. When are these morons who attack actors and actresses going to realise that they are just playing a role. Get a grip guys!
Game of Thrones season six will premiere on HBO in 2016.
