There has been a lot of talk about English midfielder Steven Gerrard throughout his whole career, with some people loving the player and believing he is one of the best players to ever pull on an England shirt, while others believe that he is over-rated and has never performed for his country on the big stage. No matter what you think of Stevie G, you cannot deny he has been the star of the Liverpool midfield for many years now.
With his performance slowly begin to fall short of what you would expect from someone of Steven Gerrard's talents, there has been talk of the midfielder calling time on his Liverpool career, which has led to the question, who will step in to fill those big boots that he will leave behind? Well, there have been some people suggesting that it could be Emre Can, including the German star himself.
Emre Can recently spoke about Steven Gerrard saying at the time, "The position in the middle of the field is the position I’m most comfortable with and where I can improve the most. I hope to be similar to Gerrard. But it isn’t going to be easy because he’s been so successful. I’m trying to get the best out of myself."
At the age of just 20 years old, Emre Can certainly has time on his side to improve his game and progress to the level that will be needed from him, if he is to become the player to take over the reigns from Steven Gerrard. We are not yet sure whether he has what it takes to fill those big boots but we look forward to watching what happens with his career in the coming years.
