It is fair to say that Benedict Cumberbatch has become one of the hottest stars on the face of the planet, with women all over the world drooling over the British hunk. However, while Benedict is now considered sexy, it seems that there were those who did not actually think he was sexy enough to play the lead role in the hit BBC series Sherlock.
When they were looking for the actor to play the role of Sherlock Holmes, the creators were looking for someone sexy to play the character, with Benedict Cumberbatch not exactly fitting the bill. Now, Sherlock creator Mark Gatiss has been talking about the audition, admitting that they were won over by the performance of the actor.
When we presented Ben on his audition day, everyone at the BBC agreed he's definitely got to be in it. And then they went, 'We were promised a sexy one though.' And we didn't say, 'Yeah he is sexy', we went, 'He's very good isn't he?'. His nose was entirely wrong apparently."
He added, "We thought, 'If only we could get the nose right we might have something. He was a weird man a few minutes ago, a sort of ginger weird person.' But that disappeared. It was the thing that suddenly worked with Colin Firth with Mr Darcy. Benedict to this day doesn't think of himself as sexy."
Since landing the role of Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch has gone on to become one of the biggest and best stars in Hollywood. As for Sherlock, the new episodes are set to air in 2017.
