We are sure that there are certainly going to be those of you out there who thought Ariana Grande was only a music superstar and had no idea about her acting talent, but the sexy star is also a very talented actress and has been in the acting game for many years. It was no surprise then, when it was revealed that Ariana had been cast in the role of Penny in the new version of Hairspray.

Remaking big screen musicals for the small screen has become all the rage recently and NBC has decided to bring us a small screen adaptation of Hairspray, with Ariana Grande being cast in the role of Penny. Ariana has now opened up about the project, admitting that she cannot wait to get started on it.
Grande explained, "I don’t want to change anything about the role or how she develops. I just love Penny and it’s such a great honour to play her. I don’t want any special icing or parts."

As well as admitting that she does not want to change anything about the character or the role, Ariana Grande also went on to talk about what landing the role means to her and her career. Ariana says that she was absolutely delighted to be cast as Penny in Hairspray, claiming that it was better than making new music.
Grande added, "This is such a dream come true for me because at heart, theatre is everything to me,” she said. “Pop music is so fun, but this is way much more fun. So much more."
Hairspray Live! will also star Kristin Chenoweth, Jennifer Hudson, Dove Cameron, and Rosie O'Donnell, among others, with the project set to air on NBC on December 7.
